बसन्त महर्जन (जन्म इ. सं. १९७२, कीर्तिपुर, काठमाडाैं) मूलतः अन्वेषक तथा लेखक हुन् । इतिहास, संस्कृति तथा पुरातत्त्व क्षेत्रकाे अध्ययन अनुसन्धान र लेखनमा सक्रीय उनी बाैद्ध इतिहास र दर्शनमा विशेष रूची राख्छन् ।
साना ठुला गरी उनका २००० भन्दा बढी लेख र पुस्तकहरू प्रकाशित छन् । बाैद्ध अध्ययन बाहेक साहित्य, संस्कृति, इतिहास, पुरातत्त्व, पर्यटनलगायत विषय क्षेत्रकाे अध्ययन अनुसन्धानमा पनि उत्तिकै सक्रीय उनका लेखहरू विभिन्न प्रतिष्ठित पत्रपत्रिका, म्यागेजिन, जर्नल तथा अनलाइन प्रकाशनहरूमा नियमित प्रकाशित हुँदै आएका छन् ।
त्रिभुवन विश्वविद्यालयबाट बाैद्ध अध्ययन (स्नातकाेत्तर) मा ‘गाेल्ड मेडलिष्ट’ उनी नेपाली इतिहास, संस्कृति तथा पुरातत्व मा पनि स्नातकाेत्तर हुन् । विश्वविद्यालयकै नेपाल र एशियाली अनुसन्धान केन्द्र (सिनास) मा पनि केही समय आवद्ध रहिसकेका छन् ।
लुम्बिनी बाैद्ध विश्वविद्यालयकाे सम्बन्धन प्राप्त लाेटस एकेडेमिक कलेजमा उनी वि.सं. २०७२ देखि प्राध्यापन गर्दै अाइरहेका छन् । यसका साथै, विभिन्न प्राज्ञिक क्षेत्रमा प्रवचन, कार्यपत्र प्रस्तुति र विषयगत क्षेत्रमा परामर्श सेवा पनि दिने गरेका छन् । प्रतिष्ठित पत्रपत्रिका, रेडियाे, टेलिभिजनहरूमा उनका अन्तर्वार्ताहरू प्रकाशन तथा प्रसारण हु्ँदै आएका छन् ।
आफ्नाे विषयवस्तुकाे अध्ययनअनुसन्धान तथा सामग्री संकलनका लागि उनी प्रायः यात्रा गरिरहेका हुन्छन् । यस क्रममा उनले काठमाडाै उपत्यकाभित्र र बाहिरका विभिन्न ऐतिहासिक, सांस्कृतिक तथा पुरातात्त्विक महत्वका स्थलहरूकाे यात्रा गरिसकेका छन् । यसअनुसार उनी एक अन्वेषक यात्री र पर्यटन लेखक पनि हुन् । अन्वेषण र लेखनकाे याे क्रम यथावत् छ । बहुआयामिक दृष्टिकाेणसहितकाे यात्रा र लेखनकाे संयाेजनका कारण यी कृयाकलापहरूलाई व्यक्तिगत स्तरमा हेर्नु मनासिव हुँदैन ।
अर्काे पक्ष हाे, फाेटाेग्राफी । साहित्य र पत्रकारिता पृष्ठभूमि रहेका उनका फाेटाेग्राफीहरू ऐतिहासिक तथा साँस्कृतिक स्थल, जनजीवनमा ‘फाेकस’ हुन्छन् । आफ्नाे विषय क्षेत्रमा केन्द्रित उनी समग्रमा भन्नुपर्दा अभिलेखीकरण, अन्वेषण र लेखनमा सक्रीय छन् । संस्कृति क्षेत्रमा पुर्याएकाे याेगदानकाे कदर गर्दै संस्कृति, पर्यटन तथा नागरिक उड्डयन मन्त्रालयबाट उनी प्रादेशिक प्रतिभा पुरस्कारबाट २०७६ सालमा पुरस्कृत हुन्।
Basanta Maharjan (born in 1972, Kirtipur, Kathmandu) is primarily a researcher and writer. He is actively involved in the study and research of history, culture, and archaeology, and has a special interest in Buddhist history and philosophy.
He has published over 2000 articles and books on various subjects. Besides Buddhist studies, his research and writings span across literature, culture, history, archaeology, and tourism, and his articles are regularly published in prestigious journals, magazines, and online platforms.
He holds a master’s degree in Buddhist studies from Tribhuvan University, where he was awarded the Gold Medal. He has mastered in Nepalese history, culture, and archaeology too and has been associated with the Nepal and Asian Studies Center (CNAS) at the university for some time.
Since 2015, he has been teaching at the Lotus Academic College, which is affiliated with Lumbini Buddhist University. In addition, he provides lectures, presentations, and consultancy services in various academic fields. His interviews have been published and broadcasted by renowned newspapers, radio, and television channels.
For the purpose of research and material collection, he frequently travels. During these journeys, he has visited numerous historical, cultural, and archaeological sites both inside and outside the Kathmandu Valley. As such, he is an explorer, traveler, and tourism writer. His explorations and writings are ongoing. These activities should not be viewed merely as personal endeavors, as they reflect a multifaceted approach to research and writing.
Another aspect of his work is photography. With a background in literature and journalism, his photography focuses on historical, cultural sites, and the lives of the people. In his overall approach, he remains active in documentation, exploration, and writing within his subject area. In recognition of his contributions to the cultural field, he was awarded the Provincial Talent Award by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation in 2019.
